Y-Chromosome Test And Mitochondrial DNA Test Are The Two Most Commonly Used DNA Tests

Dna Test

Whether you wish to confirm the identity of your biological father or use a tool which is extremely helpful for forensic investigations in criminal cases, a DNA Test is your best bet which will in almost all cases provide a conclusive evidence to what was desired to being proved. With a DNA Test being a very less painful exercise to be conducted, a lot of people get DNA tests done for a lot of purposes which have been mentioned above. Honestly though, the uses of DNA is much more wider than what has been discussed. Since the analysis is of building units in the most basic form, DNA Tests have proved extremely useful in the study of genes and the most recently introduced concept of cloning.

Y-Chromosome Test and Mitochondrial DNA Test are the two most commonly used DNA tests. A person would use a Y-Chromosome test if he wishes to find and confirm his paternal ancestry. Paternal ancestry would mean the person's biological father and grandparents. Y-Chromosome test involves forensic scientists analyzing the segments of DNA on the Y-Chromosome which is inherited from males, with the X Chromosomes inherited from females. When a child is born, he inherits 23 X Chromosomes and 23 Y Chromosomes. A person would use Mitochondrial DNA Test if he wishes to confirm his maternal ancestry. This stems from the fact that mitochondria in humans is passed down to the next generation by a mother relatively unchanged. Exhaustive tests are conducted on the human mitochondria across two Hyper Variable regions (HVR1 and HVR2). The understanding of the test results would arise from the observations of the Hyper Variable Regions. Most of these results are obtained by predicting a Mitochondrial DNA Haplogroup. Tests involving the recombination of chromosomes are used in cases to determine a person's mixed ethnic heritage. These tests have not been found to be the most accurate in the market but they continue to be as popular as they are.
